Bus probs

Liam's been having trouble getting on the bus lately. By "trouble", I mean that he is kicking and screaming and pushing off the bus steps to hard that we have both fallen backwards into the grass. In front of all the neighbors. Right after the sprinklers came on. Yup, fun times. At least I was there to break his fall.

I'm pretty sure his anti-bus movement started after Spring Break. Twelve days of not having to get on the bus were magical to him and he realized there was another option aside from going to school - staying home with Mom. And we all know there's nothing more fun than that.

So the wonderful people in his corner started picking their brains and devised a plan to get Liam onto the bus willingly. There would be someone at my house every morning, waiting for the bus with us and helping me urge Liam on. They are angels, I tell ya.

They made bus "tokens", which he would get upon boarding the bus nicely and could exchange for a prize at the school store as soon as he arrived there. I also compiled a stash of "bus toys" - dollar store junk - that he adores and he chooses one thing each morning to bring on the bus.

Between those two things, we had success today. He still whined a little bit, but he also walked onto the bus without kicking me or his aide. I'll gladly take that as a win.

And he got to school and chose a tattoo for his prize. So proud of him!

spring break in a nutshell

Spring break just came and went so fast, as usual.  This year, we really just wanted to take a breather and have a whole week of no plans, all fun. And that is definitely what we did.

The week consisted of visits to the grandparentals house, lots of sugar-filled Easter eggs, many trips to Costco for food food and more food (these boys don't stop eating), backyard gardening, Legos and more Legos, fun with friends, crayons, doing silly things with crayons, more fun with friends, meltdowns because they don't want fun with friends to end, and a little bit of crafting at the Home Depot.

It was a whirlwind. And it was FUN.

What did I do today again?

Quite often, 5PM rolls around and I can't help but think to myself, "What the hell did I do all day??" Each day is such a whirlwind of schedules and errands and activities, I usually don't have more than one hour between tasks.

This was not the case last Monday. I had 100% irrefutable, irrevocable evidence that I did something that day besides watch an entire season of Downton Abbey on Hulu.

Thank you. Thank you.

Paleasagna

I'm always looking for new and exciting recipes to try that don't have carbs. So I was looking forward to trying this recipe for "Paleasagna" that I found via Pinterest.

It was interesting to make, especially the Greek yogurt mixed with broccoli, which I'm assuming is a substitute for ricotta.

We aren't exactly doing the "Paleo" diet so I made the executive decision to added shredded mozarella to the top. Could possibly be the best decision I ever made, aside from marrying the Mister.

There you have it. Paleo-ish lasagna with a side salad of spring mix with tomatoes, olives and honey goat cheese.

It was the bomb. Forrealz. At least, the adults thought so. The kids ate as much zucchini as they could while pinching their noses so that they couldn't taste it. I'll let it slide - the amount of vegetables we are asking them to eat is much more than it used to be. It was also rather funny. But they did eat up every last bit of the meat sauce and were practically licking the plate clean, aside from the pile of zucchini off to one side.
