when liam started his behavior therapy program in january of 2012, we didn't really know what to expect.
how will he do?
will he make friends?
will he be happy?
will it be too much for him?
the questions and worry were endless.
but that winter morning, i realized that my faith in my boy far outweighed the fear that i had.
i walked him to his classroom, gave him a big hug, and handed him to the world. or maybe i handed the world to him. either way, he has been eating it all up and thriving beyond any of my expectations, every single day since then.
in the fall of 2012, he started attending a "typical' preschool, two mornings per week. he spent the rest of those days, as well as the other days of the week, at his behavior therapy program.
fast forward one year later, and it's now the fall of 2013. he is now attending his "typical" preschool five mornings per week. and he spends his afternoons at his behavior therapy program.
he had his first day of pre-kindergarten and recognized some friends from the previous year.
spontaneous conversation and requests came from him at rapid fire.
hey!!
what are you guys playing?
are you playing with trucks?
can i play with you?
no prompting needed.
no guidance required.
he was his own person.
with his own thoughts.
and his own wants and needs.
and he was able to convey them to others all on his own.
i look at this boy's face and i could burst with pride.
he has come such a long way in just a few short years.
and the journey is just beginning.
at this time next year, he'll be off to kindergarten!
