two of my favorite things: gestating and crafting

Am I crazy?
Yes.
I love gestating and on my fourth go 'round with it.
I've feel like I've finally found my purpose in this life and that is to make babies and help them grow to be wonderful people and positive contributors to our society.
Let's hope I don't screw it up.

Like Mother Teresa said...
How can there be too many children? That is like saying there are too many flowers.

I am in my last four weeks of this pregnancy and I just simply do not have the energy to leave the house, especially toting two small children. So, the only light of day we see is during drop off/pick up to school and preschool, and an occasional park play somewhere during the day if it's not too cold. Other than that, we are home all warm and cozy, the kids find a way to entertain themselves, and I can get some (Ok, TONS of) crafting done!
What's not to love?!

Off topic, but needed to be shared, the boys love to "camp" on the living room floor. I couldn't resist getting a picture of them snuggling together...not fighting...not bickering.
It was a beautiful and rare sight. :)

I made each of the big boys an Advent Calendar designed and offered as a free printable by the amazing Amy of Living Locurto. The boys LOVE it. Each evening, right before dinner and when their Dad gets home from work, they get to reveal a fun surprise. Some examples are "You get to stay up 15 minutes later tonight" or "Pick a present to open" or "You get to choose what is for dessert tonight". I unpacked a bunch of little stocking stuffers I picked up on clearance after the holidays last year and wrapped them up. The boys get to choose a small present from that bunch if that happens to be their surprise for the day. It's a sweet little activity to do each night as a family and OH, SO MUCH FUN!

We started a day late, so they got two surprises last night. They picked a candy cane for a treat and each opened a present to kick off our countdown. They loved their cute Christmas journals. Don't worry, I won't be posting pics of them and their surprise every. single. day.

I also worked on these "Exploding Boxes". The tutorial can be found here. These were so easy to make and so much fun. I am a serial picture printer, and print tons and tons of pictures even when I have no plans for their use. Costco loves me for this reason. With a little help from my handy dandy 2" scalloped square punch, the photos can all go into these sweet little photo crafts.

My current project that I'm SUPER giddy about is this Repurposed Roses Wreath. I'm mostly giddy because I've learned to make those adorable little fabric/paper roses! My head is spinning with ideas: headbands, card details, wreaths...oh, imagine the possibilities. My husband tried his best to share in my excitement when I showed him what I learned last night.

These are the first few I tried my hand at, made with some scrap fabric and brown paper lunch bags.  LOVE THEM!

I'm going to work on decorating this wreath that I picked up at the dollar store. But, you can even make the wreath form yourself by twisting paper grocery bags. You'l see that an awesome wreath could be made by re-purposing stuff laying around the house, and better yet...for FREE!

Here are some of my favorite images from Alisa Burke's Recycled Wreath Tutorial.
This was made from junk mail.

Book paper. Oh, how I love re-purposing book paper!

A beautiful end product, all from recycled materials!

embrace the camera - dec. 2

This week's photos for embracing will have not a single trace of my own children. :)

This first picture is of me and the Mister at the Union Square Tree Lighting in San Francisco that I blogged about earlier this week here.

This second picture is from the same "staycation" with my goddaughter, Savannah.

Happy Thursday!
Now, GO and embrace YOUR camera....

are you following me?

I just now realized that I never had that "Followers" gadget as part of my blog.
I also just now realized that...I wanna know!
I wanna know if people are actually reading this blog of mine or if I'm just talking to myself.
So, if you are reading this and haven't yet...please click on that cute little "Follow" button to your right.

Because, really....

And now, back to your regularly scheduled program.....

oh, yes. i did.

I discovered the most amazing recipe for S'mores Bars by accident. I had a box of graham crackers and nobody in this house eats graham crackers just by themselves...I have no idea why. So, I was trying to figure out something yummy to bake them into. These S'mores Bars turned out HEAVENLY.

Easy, peasy and you've probably got all of the ingredients in the pantry already.

12 graham crackers
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3 cups mini marshmallows
4 milk chocolate candy bars, broken into pieces (I used chocolate chips)

1. Heat oven to 350*F. Line a jelly roll pan with foil and spray with cooking spray. Place graham crackers onto foil so sides touch.
2. Melt butter and brown sugar in saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and mixture just comes to a boil. Pour evenly over crackers. (Yes. That says pour. Mmmmm....is your mouth watering yet?)
3. Bake 5 to 6 minutes or until bubbly.
4. Remove pan from oven; sprinkle with marshmallows and chocolate pieces. Continue baking until marshmallows begin to soften, about 2 to 3 minutes. Cool completely (this is important so that it cuts nicely) and cut into bars.

Look at this ooey, gooey, bubbly deliciousness.
If you are not salivating, you have no stomach.

And here they are served nicely on a dessert platter.

 That's right, I did it!
I made my dessert platters despite my disgust in the seemingly overpriced local Goodwill. *Grunt*

I couldn't resist making a Christmas-y one.
We will use it to plate Santa's cookies on Christmas Eve.

The green one is my fave of the faves.
Tip: The random, mismatched plates at the dollar store only ring up 25cents. Score!
Almost makes up for the expensive $3 candlestick holders. Bahahaha.
